For rapper Dr. Cryme, choosing a stage name was as much an act of creativity as it was a reflection of his artistic purpose.
In a recent interview on the Ayekoo show with Akua Sika, the singer and songwriter delved into the inspiration behind the unique moniker that has captured the curiosity of fans across the music scene.
“Getting a stage name for my music career wasn’t easy,” he admitted. “I didn’t want a name that was easily known by people. I wanted something that would catch attention and make people curious.”
For Agyekum, a name wasn’t just an identity—it was a statement. Known for his knack for creating distinctive concepts, he sought a title that embodied his artistic philosophy.

“I’ve always been a creative person,” he explained. “It’s part of who I am, and I love creating ideas that connect with people.”
The journey to “Dr. Cryme” was deeply personal, rooted in his desire to make music that transcends entertainment.
“I wanted my music to be therapeutic, something that could heal and inspire anyone who listens to it,” he shared. “That’s what drives me—to touch lives through my songs.”
But why “Dr.”? Agyekum’s explanation was both thoughtful and symbolic. “I chose Dr because when you are unwell, you go to the hospital to see a doctor,” he said.
“That’s why I added the title Dr—to show that my music is like medicine, offering comfort and healing to listeners.”
