Veteran Highlife musician Rex Omar has shared his candid views on the complexities of marriage during an interview on Property FM in Cape Coast with Amansan Krakye.
Omar emphasized that marriage is a serious commitment, cautioning that it’s not for everyone.
“Marriage is a serious business, and not every human being can marry on this earth,” he stated.
He further warned that immaturity is a major hurdle, saying, “If you’re not mature, don’t get into marriage because most people go into marriage just for sexual issues, but after sex, there’s a lot of responsibility.”
Omar stressed that beyond physical intimacy, marriage involves leadership and handling responsibilities. “If you don’t have the courage to manage those aspects, then don’t even think about it,” he advised.
In the same vein, Rex Omar [revisosuly took to his Facebook to urge Ghanaians to embrace and honour African marriage customs, calling out the common mislabeling of traditional ceremonies.
“After the two families have met and you’ve performed the traditional marriage ceremony with all the customs, please STOP calling it an engagement!
“That is the actual marriage according to our AFRICAN tradition laid down for us by our ANCESTORS,” Omar emphasized.
He further criticized the trend of following traditional marriages with expensive European-style weddings.
“Do NOT put pressure on yourselves to waste money on another white European wedding ceremony and call that the marriage. Our ANCESTORS were NOT stupid! For the lack of knowledge, my people perished,” he added.
