Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has refuted claims that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama is targeting journalists in reprisal attacks.
Reacting to concerns raised by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at a press conference on February 18, 2025, he expressed disappointment over what he described as a misleading narrative.
“I must also express dismay about the way that narrative was woven. It created a certain misleading impression about the government and President Mahama which needs to be straightened.
“All of you are aware that the president is an easygoing, affable person who relates very well with all manner of people,” he stated.

He further emphasized the president’s strong ties to the media, pointing out that Mahama is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in good standing.
“He is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association in good standing, so essentially, he is one of you and therefore will be the last person to supervise a dispensation where journalists are attacked,” he added.
Kwakye Ofosu argued that how the GJA addressed the press conference gave the impression that the government was retaliating against certain journalists for their work, a notion he strongly dismissed.
“But the way that the press conference was addressed and the way that the matters were couched, created the impression that some journalists had written something that government was not happy about and therefore government was carrying out reprisals against them.
“That is completely incorrect. It is not true and nothing of such nature has happened,” he clarified.
