In a significant move for Ghana’s political landscape, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called upon the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the Speaker for the 9th Parliament.
This announcement reflects Mahama’s strong belief in Bagbin’s leadership capabilities and his immense experience in Ghana’s political arena.
Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, who has been a key figure in Ghana’s Parliament for decades, has earned recognition for his tenure as both the Minority and Majority Leader, as well as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
His rise from the Member of Parliament for Nadowli to his pivotal roles within the legislature has made him one of the most influential and respected politicians in the country.

President-elect Mahama, in a statement released by his Special Aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, expressed confidence that Bagbin’s vast experience would be crucial in ensuring that the 9th Parliament operates effectively.
“Under the stewardship of The Right Honourable Alban Bagbin, Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibility,” Mahama stated.
The official statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to John Dramani Mahama, further emphasized that Bagbin’s leadership would play a critical role in the country’s democratic and legislative development at this important juncture.
“The President-elect, in consultation with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the NDC, has mandated the nomination of Rt. Hon. Bagbin to lead the 9th Parliament,” the statement read.
