President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a six-member Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee and manage national security matters as his administration transitions into office.
The announcement, made in a press statement issued on January 3, 2025, underscores the president-elect’s commitment to ensuring stability and continuity in national security operations.
The team, led by Prosper Douglas Bani, a former Minister for the Interior, will commence its mandate on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The move comes as the incoming Mahama administration prepares to make substantive appointments to key positions in national security.
The team includes a group of seasoned professionals with extensive experience in national security and defence:
- Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Chief of Defence Staff,
- Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for National Security,
- Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., former National Security Coordinator,
- Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrisu (Rtd.), and
- COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.).
In the announcement, Special Aide Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted that the formation of the interim team reflects the president-elect’s intention to prioritize a seamless transition in security management.
