Kumawood actor and producer Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as LilWin, has shared a glimpse into the massive financial sacrifices he made to bring his much-anticipated movie, A Country Called Ghana, to life.
During an interview with celebrity blogger Zionfelix, LilWin disclosed the substantial sums he spent on the project, including a hefty payment to renowned Nollywood actor Ramsey Nouah.
“I paid Ramsey Nouah more than $40,000. There was one guy I wanted to feature, but the money he wanted to charge was too much, I couldn’t pay,” LilWin revealed.
“When I called him, they thought I was a Nigerian, so they wanted to charge higher. Even accommodation and feeding are not included in the $40,000 I paid him.”
LilWin further shed light on the extensive promotional efforts he undertook for the film, which he says cost him over one million Ghana cedis.
The investment covered a variety of strategies, from advertising to personal branding.
“The promotion I did for that movie is more than one million Ghana cedis. Ghanaians don’t understand promotion… It was because of the promotion that I bought the Benz, and it helped me,” he explained.
“The attention the Benz got me is another reason why the ministers and MPs came to Accra to watch the premiere.
wI did over twenty billboards and also over four thousand pieces of T-shirts. Just calculate the amount of money I spent on that.”
