Let’s Move Away from Unnecessary Hate-Dr. Likee tells Bill Asamoah

Dr. Likee has reacted to comments made by veteran Kumawood actor Bill Asamoah, who recently downplayed claims that Dr. Likee had “saved” the Kumawood industry.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Dr. Likee called for a shift away from divisive rhetoric, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration.

“People are free to express their opinions, but there’s a way you can say these things that clearly shows the underlying hate you have for me,” Dr. Likee said, addressing Asamoah’s remarks. “Let’s move away from unnecessary hate. It’s not my doing that I’ve become who I am today. I don’t climb to the top alone; I always bring others along with me.”

The comments came after Mr. Samuel Nyamekye, a key figure in the Kumawood industry, publicly praised actors like Mercy Asiedu, LilWin, Matilda Asare, Vivian Jill Lawrence, and Dr. Likee for breathing new life into the industry. He specifically highlighted Dr. Likee’s successful YouTube series, which has gained widespread popularity, as a significant contributor to Kumawood’s revival.

However, Bill Asamoah, in an interview with Poleeno Multimedia, expressed skepticism about claims that Dr. Likee had “saved” the industry. “That’s an unfortunate statement. As much as I applaud my younger brother for what he’s doing, we should avoid rushing to overpraise people. When you do that, what message does it send to others in the industry?”

He further argued, “Dr. Likee is doing well, but is he the only one working? He has a whole team behind him. So, when people say Dr. Likee saved Kumawood, how do we interpret that? We were working before he entered the industry. Just because someone becomes a favourite of the masses doesn’t mean they are the only one holding everything together.”

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Likee emphasized that his rise to prominence was not a solo effort but a collective one. “I’ve always believed in lifting others as I climb. This isn’t about me being the face of Kumawood or being a saviour. It’s about creating a platform where everyone can shine,” he noted.
