Rapper and vocalist Kwame Yogot has revealed that in 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) approached him with a significant proposal to feature his popular track Biibi Besi in their campaign for the 2024 general elections, endorsing flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
During an interview with Abeiku Santana on Okay FM, Kwame Yogot explained that a misunderstanding with his management, who requested GHC 1 million, hindered the agreement, resulting in the missed opportunity for the substantial offer.
“At the time, my management was demanding GH¢1million instead, and given the issues I was having with them, I didn’t see the need to pursue it further,” he said.
Earlier this year, GhanaStreetJournal mentioned that Kwame Yogot was ‘chasing’ Bawumia claiming he is indebted to him for using his song for political motives without obtaining his consent.
The rapper and singer expressed his disappointment in not receiving any compensation after Bawumia employed his song ‘Biibi Besi’ for campaigning during the Assin North by-election.
This sentiment was conveyed during his interview with Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast’s Property FM.
He said “Oh naa I’ve not gotten anything from Dr. Bawumia after he used my song Biibi Besi to campaign during the Assin North by-election held last year.
“My former record label all the people there are big men within the NPP so I don’t know what they are doing if they’ve gone to take money behind my back,” he added.
“Just recently I had a conversation with the CEO of my former record label and he told me that they’ve brought a certain offer but since then I’ve not heard from anyone again.
“I didn’t even want them to use my song to campaign in the first place and so when he told me I said as for me I’m not interested in those things. But since then I’ve not been updated as to what is happening”.
