Kwaku Manu has criticized Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s credit scoring system, emphasizing that the main issue affecting the youth in the country is unemployment.
During a discussion on UTV, the actor and entrepreneur pointed out that when individuals are gainfully employed and receive fair compensation, they can make purchases without relying on credit.
Additionally, Kwaku Manu strongly stated that even those who are employed do not earn an average of GHC 1,500 or a maximum of GHC 3,000, which he deemed insufficient given the current economic conditions in the country.
As a result, he refuted the relevance and sustainability of Bawumia’s policy.
“I am of the view that creating jobs is better than providing the people with credit card. In the Western world, credit cards are given to people who work and earn a living.
Without enough revenue, the Banks will not even give you a credit card. In Ghana the unemployed people outnumber the people who are employed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia responded to criticisms regarding his proposal for a credit scoring system in Ghana.
He emphasized that the system is designed to facilitate credit purchases, thereby improving financial inclusivity for a wider range of Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia pointed out in a social media post the progress made in Ghana, including the introduction of the Ghana Card, database integration, and the expansion of financial services through mobile money interoperability.
He believes that these advancements create a solid foundation for the implementation of a credit scoring system.
