Kumawood: Juju claims could scare investors away- Elorm Aba ‘fights’ Portia Asare

Elorm Aba has criticized her colleague Portia Asare for asserting that juju is the main reason behind the decline of Kumawood.

While she recognizes the presence of juju within the industry, Elorm contends that it is not the root cause of Kumawood’s predicament.

She believes that Portia Asare should have directed her efforts towards productive conversations aimed at enhancing the industry rather than lamenting about juju.

Elorm expressed concern that Portia’s remarks could deter potential investors and lead to further negative consequences for the industry.

According to her, Portia Asare should have focused on constructive discussions about improving the industry instead of complaining about ‘juju’.

“We all know that there is something like juju in the industry, everyone knows, it’s been there for a long time. But we are trying to revive the Kumawood movie industry. You can’t just come from somewhere and claim that Kumawood collapsed because of juju.

“You claim the Kumawood industry is dead but you are shooting a movie in Kumasi. If you believe that the industry is dead, why are you still in it?

“Saying something like that will deter people from venturing into it and rather kill Kumawood.

“She should have said things to improve the industry, she should have talked about the equipment and the finances we need. Things that will help grow the industry. Not things like juju that will scare investors away,” she said on Onua TV.

Aba emphasized that other film industries, such as Nigeria’s, encounter challenges as well, yet they persist in striving for development.

She elaborated that her response stemmed from the fact that Asare, being a seasoned member of the industry, has influential words that ought to be utilized to support and elevate the Kumawood movie industry instead of diminishing it.

“Look at Nigeria, they also have issues, yet everyone is working to grow their movie industry.

“So if you get a platform, use it to help improve the industry that you are still a part of. Not talking about juju and all these things that will rather bring it down,” she added.
