Kurl Songx has revealed that his departure from Highly Spiritual, which is owned by Kaywa, left him deeply disappointed.
Nevertheless, he clarified on Joy Prime that his exit should not be viewed as an act of betrayal, despite some interpretations suggesting otherwise.
When asked if he felt he had betrayed Kaywa with his sudden exit, the Afrobeat artiste was reluctant to label it as a betrayal but acknowledged that his decision could have been disheartening for his mentor.
“At a point, yes. He will feel down that I left. But I wouldn’t say it was betrayal or something intentional,” he explained.
Kurl Songx mentioned that his behaviour stemmed from the pressures and anxieties experienced by emerging artists, which can occasionally result in impulsive choices.
“When you’re coming up as an artiste, the anxiety to do more can make you take moves that you are not supposed to do,” he said.
Reflecting on his departure, Kurl Songx admitted that his decision might have been too hasty.
“Papa (Kaywa) has been. Is the one who brought me here. If not for Papa, we wouldn’t be here. So I felt like it was too early, you know, I should have waited a while,” he said.
