Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has never been one to shy away from calling out issues in the entertainment industry, and his latest remarks are no exception.
During an engaging conversation on the Honest Brunch podcast, the revered actor took a swipe at the emerging crop of actresses in Nollywood, criticizing their growing dependence on physical appeal over genuine acting talent.
“Many of these young women cannot even read their scripts, let alone deliver a compelling performance,” Kanayo remarked.
“Instead of dedicating time to their craft, they rely on their enhanced curves and artificial accents, thinking that’s enough to make them stars.”
The acclaimed actor didn’t mince words, expressing frustration at how the industry’s standards have been diluted by what he described as a “superficial obsession” with appearance.
Kanayo noted the increasing trend of cosmetic enhancements, lamenting that many aspiring stars invest more in their looks than in building their skills.
“Acting is about emotion, depth, and storytelling. You don’t win over an audience with plastic surgery or a foreign twang.
“You captivate them with authenticity,” he said, drawing on his decades of experience in Nollywood.
