Popular Ghanaian actor and comedian Richard Kweku Asante, known professionally as Kalybos, has weighed in on Ghana’s ongoing national discussions surrounding major development projects.
Speaking on the Girls Aloud podcast, Kalybos offered his thoughts on the proposed National Cathedral and the government’s vision for a 24-hour economy.
“Now the cathedral is not being built yet, so I can’t really compare it to the 24-hour economy policy,” he explained. “But if I had to choose, I would go for the 24-hour economy.”
The National Cathedral, a contentious project aimed at becoming a cultural and religious symbol, has faced delays and divided public opinion.
Meanwhile, the proposed 24-hour economy policy—designed to create a round-the-clock cycle of business activity to drive growth—has sparked excitement in some quarters.
Kalybos’ comments reflect the pragmatic approach of many citizens who prioritize economic opportunities over symbolic ventures.
In addition to voicing his opinion on national matters, Kalybos opened up about his personal life and how he and his wife navigate the negativity often associated with public scrutiny.
Following their marriage, the couple faced a wave of harsh comments on social media, but the actor revealed that they remain unfazed.
“We sit and watch these harsh comments from social media and laugh about it,” he said, smiling. “My wife is not bothered at all because she understands the kind of industry I’m in.”
