Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has provided an update on the legal situation surrounding the tragic death of actor Junior Pope, revealing that they are not pursuing legal action against actress and producer Adanma Luke.
Rollas explained that while they initially considered suing, the AGN’s legal advisor clarified that the contract Pope signed with Luke’s production company did not give the guild the legal standing to sue.
Instead, only Pope’s direct family or his wife could take legal action.
Rollas went on to emphasize the broader issues the AGN is addressing, noting that Pope had not paid his membership dues in the year before his death, which further complicated the guild’s position.
“As of the time of his death, he was not a due-paying member of the guild,” Rollas stated during an interview on Arise TV.

“We’ve been looking into how we can better structure the guild to ensure such situations don’t happen again.”
The tragic incident occurred while Pope and other crew members were filming in riverine areas. The boat they were travelling in capsized, claiming Pope’s life along with four other crew members.
Rollas expressed his frustration with producers who fail to adhere to safety standards, pointing out that some producers had even hired amateur drivers for location shoots, which nearly led to another actor’s death in a separate incident.
He stressed that this would not be tolerated going forward.
