The political atmosphere is intensifying as we approach this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

One of the highly contested constituencies is Awayaso West Wuogon, where actor-turned-politician John Dumelo will be competing against NPP’s Lydia Alhassan.

The celebrated actor, who narrowly missed defeating Lydia in the 2020 elections, has publicly criticized his opponent for employing questionable tactics before the elections.

He claims that Lydia Alhassan recently provided transportation for students from the University of Ghana to their destinations during vacation periods.

In his words, despite these alleged attempts to win votes through such means, Dumelo remains confident that his constituents will not be swayed.

He mentioned that students who used the transportation service contacted him upon arrival at their homes.

“Tough battle? Lol. The students she’s transporting are my people. They called me to say they have arrived safely home,” he responded to a tweep who said the battle would be very tough for him considering what his opponent was doing.

John Dumelo is contesting Lydia Alhassan for the second time in the Parliamentary race.

In other John Dumelo stories, the Heart of Men actor recently acknowledged the factors that led to his defeat in 2020 while revealing the strategies to overcome them during his appearance on Bola Ray’s Starr Chat.

Dumelo emphasized the absence of students on campus during the election as a significant contributing factor to his loss.

Furthermore, he outlined his strategy to address and rectify these issues moving forward.

“I think the first one was that we went door to door, but we didn’t go everywhere. The second one was that the students were not on campus, i.e., in 2020.

And so that’s how we lost. The third one was that we had a few mishaps during the election period, which I cannot say now, but those are the lessons,” he said.

Additionally, Dumelo confirmed that he has taken note of his mistakes and is committed to making every possible effort to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.
