John Dumelo has apologized for alleging that his primary rival for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat, Lydia Alhassan, was responsible for her husband’s death in order to secure her position as a Member of Parliament.
Dumelo made the wild allegation during a segment on TV3’s community watch program, where he became agitated by the chants of NPP supporters referencing the well-known V8 controversy while he was speaking.
In his frustration, he shifted the focus of his remarks to accuse Alhassan of having killed her husband to take over his parliamentary seat.
He said, “I want to say something. I can see their supporters have been mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, then it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one who killed her husband to become MP.
“That is it because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go the same tangent. If they want to go that tangent, I will go the same tangent because this time around, it is boot for boot.”
However, in response to widespread condemnation from the Ghanaian public, John Dumelo has graciously offered an apology on X.
Lydia was married to the late politician Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko until his death in 2018.
In January 2019, Alhassan ran for the parliamentary seat representing the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. She stood as a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and took over the position following the passing of her husband.
