Ghanaian musician Xheila is making waves in the industry with her raw talent and determination to stay true to herself.
She opened up about the challenges she’s faced and the principles that have kept her grounded in an interview on Joy News’ Changes monitored by Ghanastreetjournal.
“One of my biggest achievements is keeping myself disciplined despite societal influences,” Xheila shared. “There have been moments where money could have pushed me to do things I didn’t want to do, but I’ve always stood my ground.”
She revealed that she once turned down a record label contract because of inappropriate demands. “He offered me a deal, but I had to sleep with him,” Xheila disclosed. “I made it clear I wanted to focus on business. If I had accepted, it wouldn’t have been about my music anymore—it would have been about me. And I’m not here for that.”

For Xheila, building her career has been a step-by-step process. “I started with cover songs so people could get familiar with my face and voice,” she explained. “Now, it’s all about promoting my music. I’m here, and I’m putting in the work!”
When asked about societal pressures to display material success, Xheila credited her mother’s advice for keeping her focused. “My mom always says, ‘If you rush, you crash.’ We see examples of that on social media every day. I’m okay with my journey.”
Though she is often referred to as an “upcoming artist,” Xheila sees herself as a rising star. “Underground sounds like you’ve been buried, but rising star? That means the future is bright,” she said, correcting misconceptions about her status.
