Veteran Ghanaian actress Adwoa Smart has debunked claims circulating on social media that she was gifted a house by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
In an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM, the diminutive actress expressed her frustration at the false narrative.
“Even worse, they said the former Vice President, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, bought me a house.
“The bloggers composed a picture of the two of us, with Dr. Bawumia appearing to put a key in my hands,” she said with evident disappointment.

Adwoa Smart, a household name in Ghana’s entertainment industry, clarified the only time she met Dr. Bawumia.
“Were it not for Nana Ampadu’s state funeral, I would have never met Dr. Bawumia,” she explained, emphasizing that their interaction was brief and limited to a public event.
She revealed the impact of the rumours on her personal life, noting the unnecessary scrutiny and pressure it has brought her.
“It’s brought me unnecessary pressure. I’m questioned all the time. Someone even asked me about this last week,” she lamented.
The veteran actress used the opportunity to address the dual nature of social media, acknowledging its potential to do good but also pointing out its pitfalls.
“I always say social media is useful, but in other instances, it causes trouble, to say the least. Facebook, TikTok, etc. expose crimes and attract the attention of relevant authorities, but others use the same social media for unacceptable things,” she noted.
