John Dumelo’s wife, Gifty M. Nkornu Dumelo, has expressed gratitude and excitement following her husband’s election as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West and his subsequent appointment as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
In a heartfelt social media post, she wrote, “Vetted, approved, sworn in and now Honourable Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture…..
“This can only be the doing of the Lord 🙏🏽 ….. It’s time to serve the people of Ghana and the good people of Ayawaso West diligently, carefully, and honestly.”
Dumelo, who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged victorious in the 2024 elections, defeating his New Patriotic Party (NPP) opponent in a closely contested race. His victory marked a significant milestone in his political journey, having narrowly lost in his first attempt in 2020 to Mrs. Lydia Alhassan.
This time, his strong message of social change, job creation, and youth and women empowerment resonated deeply with voters.
His campaign, which focused on improving local infrastructure and enhancing education, ultimately won the support of many.
In the final results, Dumelo secured 47,560 votes, surpassing Lydia Alhassan’s 39,214 votes, solidifying his place as the new representative for Ayawaso West.
His appointment as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture further strengthens his role in national development.
