It’s Only Poor People Who Think Homosexuality Is A Sin—Wanlov The Kubolor

Wanlov the Kubolor, a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana, has pointed out that many people in the country, particularly those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, tend to view homosexuality as a sin due to religious teachings influenced by Christianity, Islam, and traditional colonial beliefs.

According to him, this misinformation often leads to negative attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community.

“What has happened now to us as Ghanaians is because we have been taken to this level of poverty. The average Ghanaian has been taught by Christianity, Islam and colonial traditional religions that homosexuality is a sin which is foreign information.”

The show, dubbed “Your Ghana, My Ghana”, hosted by Dede Amanor Wilks, offers viewers a unique and insightful perspective on topical issues in the country.

Wanlov the Kubolor strongly advocates for the liberation of Ghanaians and Africans from mental enslavement to perceive matters without prejudice.

He emphasizes that due to the prevailing animosity towards LGBTQ+ individuals, the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana lives in a perpetual state of fear, necessitating their quest for freedom.

“We want our rights as well. We want to be free to buy things at the roadside without people harassing us. We want that freedom,” the barefooted walking and skirt-wearing musician appealed to Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, Wanlov’s sister, Sister Derby recently questioned Ghanaians about whether their lives have seen any positive changes since the anti-LGBTQ+ bill was passed.

Despite the general disapproval of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana, she still raised the question of gauging the impact of the new legislation. Her inquiry was shared on the social media platform X (Twitter).

She said, “Now that the hate bill has been ‘passed’, is your life better? Are you richer? Are you happier? Are you healthier?”
