Rev. Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has stirred the pot with his controversial stance on polygamy during a recent interview on Kasapa FM.
The leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) boldly stated that upon assuming office, he would advocate for men to marry multiple wives—suggesting that five, six, seven, or even ten wives would be acceptable.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom defended his position by arguing that with the growing number of women in society, it makes sense for men to have the option to marry more than one woman.
“The plenty of women, who do you expect to be with them? So it’s good,” he reasoned. He further stated that this practice would align with the biblical directive to “fill the earth,” emphasizing the need for increased population growth.

He acknowledged the importance of financial responsibility, adding that men should work hard to generate sufficient revenue to support their wives.
“You should make sure you are working to generate enough revenue to cater for the women. It is not a sin,” he asserted, suggesting that societal norms and religious interpretations can evolve over time.
“There are things that were written to some people during their dispensation [in the Bible], so ours is different,” he explained.
His remarks on polygamy reflect his belief that tradition and culture should adapt to current societal needs.
While his views may resonate with some, they have also sparked significant debate. The conversation around polygamy is a sensitive topic in Ghana, where cultural and religious beliefs often collide with contemporary values.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom’s advocacy for such practices may challenge conventional norms, pushing for a re-examination of marriage and family structures in modern Ghana.
