Award-winning Ghanaian producer, Appiah Dankwah aka Appietus has put an end to the long-standing Hiplife debate that originated in Ghana.
While it is widely acknowledged that Reggie Rockstone, born Reginald Osei started the Hiplife genre by blending indigenous Highlife sounds with Hiphop, there have been conflicting claims from other industry players.
Appietus, with more than twenty years of experience in the industry, strongly believes that Reggie Rockstone initiated the Hiplife movement, which then inspired other African artists to incorporate Hip-hop elements in their local languages.
Appietus recently shared his insights on the topic during an appearance on Channel One TV, formerly known as Citi TV.
“Reggie Rockstone is undeniably the originator of Hiplife,” Appietus stated. “He brought a unique fusion of highlife and hip-hop that resonated with the youth and created a whole new musical movement.
“Without Reggie’s groundbreaking work, Hiplife as we know it today wouldn’t exist.
Appietus further emphasized Rockstone’s influence extending beyond music production, acknowledging his significant contribution to the culture and identity of the youth in Ghana.
“Reggie didn’t just create a genre; he gave young Ghanaians a voice and a way to express themselves. He made it cool to embrace our heritage while staying relevant in the global music scene,” he said.
