The winds of change have swept through the Gomoa Central Constituency, leaving a trail of surprise and anticipation.
In a shocking outcome from the December 7 elections, an independent candidate has risen to claim victory, reshaping the political narrative.
Kwame Asare Obeng, better known as Kwame A-Plus, has unseated the incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah, to become the newly elected Member of Parliament.
A-Plus, a first-time contestant, captured 14,277 of the 36,026 valid votes cast, leaving Naana Eyiah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) trailing with 11,637 votes.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Yawson Mohamed followed with 10,112 votes, rounding out a dramatic contest that has left the constituency abuzz.
For many, A-Plus’s triumph is a reflection of mounting dissatisfaction with the incumbent’s tenure. Local youth, in particular, voiced their frustrations, citing an absence of meaningful progress under Naana Eyiah’s leadership.
“There’s been no real development in our constituency,” some expressed, pointing to this as the catalyst for their decision to vote her out and opt for an independent voice.
This victory not only marks a significant political shift but also signals the growing demand for accountability and tangible change among voters in Gomoa Central.
