In a candid moment during a TikTok live session, rap icon Nicki Minaj expressed frustration with not being a US citizen, despite living in America for many years and contributing significantly to its economy.
“I’m not a citizen of America. Isn’t that crazy?” she said, expressing her bewilderment. “I was born on a beautiful island called Trinidad and Tobago.
But I’ve been in the States for so long. You would think that with the millions of dollars I’ve paid in taxes to this country, I would have been given honorary citizenship many, many, many thousands of years ago.”
Nicki Minaj was born in Saint James, a district of Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, on December 8, 1982.
Her birth name is Onika Tanya Maraj. She moved to the United States when she was around five years old, settling in Queens, New York.
Her parents are Carol Maraj and Robert Maraj. Nicki’s mother, originally from Trinidad, is a gospel singer and worked in accounting and payroll.
