Ghanaian-American comedian and philanthropist Michael Blackson has publicly declared his allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing the party’s latest financial intervention as a game-changer for Ghanaians.
In a tweet quickly gaining traction, Blackson expressed his excitement over the government’s decision to honour bond payments under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
“Look at God, this is a very great start for all bondholders. As of today, I’m officially a member of the NDC party. @JDMahama You just put a smile on the faces of the kids at my free school,” he wrote.
Blackson’s endorsement follows President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for the Ministry of Finance to fulfill outstanding financial obligations.

On February 17, 2025, the government disbursed GHS6.081 billion in Payment-In-Cash (PIC) to bondholders while also settling GHS3.46 billion through the Payment-In-Kind (PIK) mechanism.
To ensure stability, an additional GHS9.7 billion was transferred into the Debt Service Recovery Cedi Account (Sinking Fund) as a buffer for upcoming payments in July and August 2025.
For many Ghanaians, the move represents a critical step in restoring economic confidence after a period of financial uncertainty.
Blackson, who has been vocal about the struggles of ordinary citizens, sees this as a significant relief.
His mention of “putting a smile on the faces of the kids” likely references the Michael Blackson Academy, a tuition-free school he built in Ghana to support underprivileged children.
