Stonebwoy recently revealed that he has Nigerian ancestry, just days after Shatta Wale renounced his Ghanaian citizenship and declared himself a Nigerian.
Stonebwoy claims that his people are of Yoruba descent, specifically from the Ewe tribe in the Oyo Kingdom. Predictably, his comment has caused a massive buzz and added a layer to the narrative as far as entertainment in Ghana is concerned.
During a conversation about his roots with renowned car reviewer and influencer Ola Of Lagos, the musician shared that his ancestors migrated from the southern part of Nigeria and were the original settlers in Ijesha.
He said; “Me sef nah Niger, no lies. Me nah Ewe from Oyo Kingdom, my tr!be migrated from Nigeria to Ghana here, na we get Illesha. Shout-out to my people in the southern part of Nigeria, check Ewe, we root straight to Yoruba”.
Before his Bhim concert staged on December 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium, Stonebwoy gave a heartfelt interview.
During the interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Stonebwoy shared the story of his life-altering accident, which left him walking as a ‘half man’, and the difficult period when he relied on the support of mainstream musicians.
Despite the obstacles he faced, Stonebwoy expressed gratitude for how far he had come, acknowledging that God had played a significant role in his journey. He also highlighted his numerous accolades, both in Ghana and internationally.
“If you want to see the greatness of God in everything, look at my life. We started at Ashaiman, a ghetto youth. People don’t remember that I used to walk one and a half. Because my kneel got tattered in an accident as a teenager. I used to walk stiff and yet I have to win artist of the year,” Stonebwoy stated.
“So my life is a miracle that’s why tomorrow is going to be another miracle,” he reiterated.
According to him, it is not easy in the creative industry in Ghana.
“The industry that I believe loves you and it gets to the point that they have to give you a special amount of hate that you need to deal with. When you go through that then it seems that you become untouchable,” he stated.
