Stonebwoy has granted an interview to Property FM, a Cape Coast-based media outlet, which has caused quite a stir online due to some comments he made.
In the interview, Stonebwoy expressed his satisfaction at being reinstated into the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) and emphasized his commitment to supporting the event as a patriotic Ghanaian who values progress.
Conversely, he also stated that individuals who do not endorse this commendable initiative spearheaded by Theresa Ayaode of Charterhouse are essentially showing disdain towards Ghana.
“You are very right if I don’t feel happy, motivated, concerned and involved in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards then it means I’m not a Ghanaian or I don’t want its progress.
“I look at the whole Ghana that we too this is our own thing so Ghana Music Awards is what belongs to us unless you are not a Ghanaian or you hate the country,” he opined.
Recall that the 2019 TGMA infamously ended abruptly due to a physical altercation involving a gun display from Stonebwoy which ultimately attracted significant attention from local and international media.
The rivalry between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale escalated dramatically as Stonebwoy boldly brandished a gun, warning anyone who approached him on stage after Wale and his group surrounded him.
This incident occurred after Stonebwoy won the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award for an impressive fifth consecutive time.
During the award ceremony, Stonebwoy was receiving his well-deserved recognition when suddenly, his rival Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed onto the stage without any clear motive.
Recognizing the potential threat, Stonebwoy, who had possibly anticipated such a situation and was prepared, swiftly drew out a gun, causing chaos to erupt within the auditorium as startled guests scattered in every direction.
Thus, the Artiste of the Year winner was not officially declared, but many experts feel that Stonebwoy was the deserving recipient.
Explaining further Stonebwoy said, “As musicians whatever we’re doing in our field of music is to lift the name of Ghana high and bring honour to the country and help Ghanaians to get employment.
“That’s how I see it so if another year has come and the organizers have used their resources to put together such an amazing event we also need to support it.
“If you can’t support it too no problem but so far as it’s for Ghana, I can’t take myself out of it that’s why you see my intention because whenever I travel to perform I represent Ghana literally.
“So why would I not be happy about anything Ghana and if you are not part of it you can’t contribute to it so you have to be a part of it for you to be able to contribute,” he posited.
