Music video director Yaw Skyface has cautioned against the overuse of visualizers in place of proper music videos, following Bullgod’s assertion that traditional videos are no longer necessary in 2025.
“It can work for somebody, but if you do visualisers more than three times, it won’t work,” he stated in an interview on Hitz FM.
“It’s like you are directing people to do the bad thing and you will come out from it. Also, you are not helping the up-and-coming people.”
The discussion began after Bullgod suggested that artists should abandon full-length music videos in favour of short clips optimized for social media engagement. However, Skyface believes this mindset could negatively affect both established and emerging artists.
He highlighted the impact of high-quality music videos on an artist’s branding and digital success.
“Some people cut short videos of songs from their music videos to promote them on social media,” he explained. “If you post a video on YouTube, you can get likes and exposure. Again, in bigger collaborations, people want to see the kind of artiste behind the song.”
