Ghanaian rapper Pappy Kojo has opened up about a range of issues, including his performance of other artists’ songs and his take on Keche’s involvement in a recent music beef in an interview on YFM.
Known for his bold opinions and unique style, Pappy didn’t hold back as he shared his thoughts on what he sees as unnecessary controversy in the music industry.
When asked about his habit of performing songs by other artists, Pappy was unapologetic and firmly stated that his actions were out of genuine admiration for their work.
“They should be happy that I perform their songs because I’m a fan. If I see any artiste performing my songs, I would be equally happy,” he remarked, expressing his love for Ghanaian music and the artists behind the tracks.
Pappy explained that his decision to perform the songs is purely rooted in his enjoyment of the music, not any form of disrespect. “I’m not doing anything wrong; I’m just enjoying their music. If they have a problem with me performing their songs, that’s their issue,” he said with confidence, brushing off any criticism from those who might feel otherwise.
The interview took an interesting turn when the subject of a recent Hip-Hop beef came up. Pappy was asked about the involvement of Keche, a popular music duo more known for Afrobeats, in a feud that many considered to be strictly Hip-Hop territory. Pappy didn’t mince words when he shared his thoughts on the matter.
“It was funny Keche was involved in the beef,” Pappy said, visibly amused. “We are talking about Hip-Hop and Keche doesn’t do that genre of music, so it wasn’t a wise idea for them to join in the battle,” he added, signalling that he felt their participation was out of place.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Pappy Kojo made it clear that he harbours no ill will. His stance on both topics reflects his larger philosophy of freedom within the art of music and his willingness to speak openly about issues in the industry.
As for the future, Pappy is focused on his craft and enjoying the music he loves, whether he’s performing his own tracks or showing appreciation for others.
In his words, “Music is about expression, and I’m expressing my love for the music I enjoy. I don’t see why anyone should have a problem with that.”
