Former Multimedia employee, Jimmy Quist disclosed that he was not paid for his iconic role in Effiewura.
Quist, who portrayed the character Nii for 12 years in the long-running Ghanaian TV series, explained that he took on the role voluntarily out of his love for the show and his desire to elevate it to prime-time TV success using his own fame.
He shared this information during an appearance on Channel One TV’s Upside Down show.
“Efiewura came out after Okraku Mantey had produced Daasebre Dwamena. I think there was a fallout somewhere, so I went to visit Okraku Mantey and the director was there, so I offered to be part of the series voluntarily,” he said to expand this particular entertainment news.
He clarified that although professional actors were paid, he and other participants who used their own vehicles only received fuel reimbursements.
He mentioned that his participation was a way to show support for the project, and that he and his friend, Koofori, who were both radio personalities at the time, utilized their platforms to boost the show’s popularity.
“They only gave allowance…I wanted to do it because it was my friend’s thing…Koofori was at Radio Gold and I was at Joy so we used our platform to propel Efiewura to get popular.
“I was actively in Efiewura for 13 years, …from 2002 till 2014… I wasn’t getting paid..they were only paying the professionals… Those of us with cars were given something for fuel,” he said.
The show featured veteran actors such as Bob Santo, Katawere, Araba Stamp, and Michael Moncar, who have all passed away and have been replaced by other talented actors to keep the storyline going.
The series explores the complexities of residing in a shared housing unit and the mischievous behaviour of property owners in their interactions with tenants.
