A video spotted by Tru News Report shows Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Omah Lay saying he “was in so much pain when I wrote “soso””

Recently, while performing in Berlin, the singer granted an interview to Hey! Steph TV in which he discussed his upbringing in Nigeria, mental health, aspirations, and life lessons.

He threw light on his lyrics in the hit song “soso,” which goes like “water no get enemy ’til you fall for Oshimiri”

When asked by the interviewer what went into that line, he responded:

“Water is good for you to survive, water is beautiful, water is sweet, but until you fall in the deep sea, so you know that water can kill.

“I was in pain. I was in so much pain when I was writing the song. I don’t know, I was just down, I was in a place where I was losing my mind. I was smoking a lot.

“There was really nothing in life that was nice. The only place that I found comfort while I was making this album was just going to the studio and just singing anything that come to my mind, and it took me so long to write this album, like the album was my therapy. Everything I felt, I was just pouring it on the record”

It was rumoured that Omah Lay was in a depressing situation when his girlfriend broke up with him before he made all of these hits.

Early in the year, he posted a video to social media in which he directly addressed the woman and implied that she had lost something of value: “Look what you lost to the street…. your loss.”

We have reason to believe that he channelled his wrath and depression over his breakup into the hit single “soso” and the whole “Boy Alone” album for that matter.
