The story of Ghanaian musician Okomfour Kwadee resonates deeply with many in the entertainment industry.
Once a dominant force in Ghana’s hiplife scene, his career was marred by struggles with mental health, financial difficulties, and alleged exploitation.
Now, his mother has spoken out, revealing the reasons behind her decision to keep him away from music.
During an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz, she disclosed that Kwadee’s former managers prioritized profits over his well-being.
“His managers are the reason why he turned out the way he did. They did not care about his health and sanity but rather about their money. They were making money off him while he came home with nothing.”
Her statement reflects a painful reality that has been echoed in the stories of many musicians who, at the peak of their careers, found themselves struggling financially despite their commercial success.

The entertainment industry, particularly in Ghana, has seen cases where artists sign deals that strip them of their earnings, leaving them in dire conditions once their fame fades.
Kwadee’s mother made it clear that she intervened to protect her son. “I know a musician who suffered a similar fate and stopped singing, and he feeds himself, so why can’t my son do the same?
“I realized the managers were taking advantage of him, so I stopped him from singing so that he works at getting well, and then he can really choose what he wants.”
Kwadee, born Jerry Anaba, was once celebrated for his unique storytelling style and deep cultural influences.
However, his career took a downturn amid reports of mental health struggles, which led to multiple rehabilitation attempts.
While some fans have hoped for a musical comeback, his mother’s words suggest that his health remains the priority.
