Ghanaian comedian OB Amponsah has candidly shared his frustrations with the Akufo-Addo administration, expressing deep regret over his voting choices and revealing his decision to sit out the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with DJ Slim, OB recounted his unwavering support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, having voted for him on four separate occasions.
However, he now admits his disappointment, citing a series of personal financial setbacks under the current government.
“I voted for Akufo-Addo four times,” OB began. “But I regret all that now. First, I lost my money to Menzgold.
“Then I started investing in a legitimate bank, only to receive an email one day informing me that I had been affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange program (haircut). I was so confused. It wasn’t fair; it affected me massively.”
The comedian’s reference to Menzgold points to the financial crisis that left many Ghanaians in distress after the company’s collapse.
Many investors lost their hard-earned savings, prompting widespread criticism of the government’s perceived inaction in resolving the matter.
Adding to his woes was the impact of the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program, which OB described as a second financial blow.
The program, introduced to restructure Ghana’s mounting debt, led to significant losses for individual and institutional investors.
