I Regret Not Having Baby Mamas to Continue My Legacy- Skales Confesses

Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has expressed his regrets about not having any baby mamas during an interview with media personality VJ Adams.

In a podcast discussion, Skales revealed that he feels immense pressure as the last surviving member of his bloodline, emphasizing the importance of continuing his family legacy.

“I really regret not having baby mamas. Because I’m like the only one in my bloodline alive right now,” Skales stated, highlighting his unique situation.

Unlike many of his peers in the music industry, who often juggle multiple relationships and children, Skales feels the weight of responsibility to produce an heir to carry on his family’s name.

This admission sheds light on the cultural expectations surrounding lineage and legacy, especially in the African context, where family ties and the continuation of one’s bloodline hold significant importance.

As he humorously put it, “I think I am receiving applications,” indicating a light-hearted approach to the serious topic of family and legacy.

In the year 2000, Skales began composing rap music in Kaduna, Nigeria. During the period from 2007 to 2008, he traveled to Jos to collaborate with Jesse Jagz and Jeremiah Gyang.

In 2008, he participated in the Zain Tru Search competition, securing victory in the North Central region. His inaugural single, “Must Shine,” garnered significant airplay on Rhythm FM stations across Lagos, Jos, and Abuja.

Skales has worked with a variety of artists, including Akon, ELDee, Tekno, Harmonize, Jeremiah Gyang, Banky W., and Knighthouse. Some of his popular tracks are “Shake Body,” “Mukulu,” “Keresimesi,” “Komole,” “My Baby,” “Take Care of Me,” and “Denge Pose.”

Following his departure from E.M.E in May 2014, he established the independent record label OHK Music. His first studio album, titled Man of the Year, was released in 2015.
