Veteran Highlife musician KK Fosu has sparked conversations with his recent remarks about the contrasting financial independence of musicians and politicians.
In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Akwaaba Show with Sammy Brown, the seasoned artist laid bare his thoughts on how the two professions operate, leaving listeners with much to ponder.
“Music pays because we have the rights, and the money keeps coming to us,” KK Fosu explained with conviction.
For the Highlife star, musicians have carved out a path of financial independence, relying on royalties and other income streams that reward their creativity and hard work long after a song is released.

His tone, however, shifted when addressing the role of politicians, whose financial dependence, he argued, tells a very different story.
“But you, the politician, are paid out of the taxes I pay, so you are not independent. You’re working for me,” he stated firmly.
KK Fosu’s words carried a powerful message, drawing attention to the fact that public servants are meant to prioritize the welfare of the people they represent, not their personal gain.
He went further to assert that genuine politics was never intended to enrich individuals but rather to serve the masses.
To illustrate his point, KK Fosu took listeners back to an era under former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Reflecting on the strict accountability of that time, he shared, “That’s why during Rawlings’ time when a minister was rampantly building houses, he was confronted and slapped. That’s how it’s supposed to be.”
