Balancing his spiritual life with the demands of acting has always been a challenge for Apostle John Prah, a Ghanaian preacher and popular Kumawood actor.
In an interview with actress and host of the Okukuseku program, Emelia Brobbey, he opened up about the struggles he faces on set, particularly in scenes involving intimacy.
“It’s sometimes scary,” Prah admitted, referring to the moments where his role requires a more intimate connection.
“One thing that disturbs me on set is being seduced, but I told myself there were crew members in the same room, so there was nothing I could do. It used to disturb me, but I’ve learned to handle it.”
Prah’s honesty revealed the inner conflict that many actors, especially those with strong religious convictions, experience when their on-screen roles require actions or emotions that conflict with their personal beliefs.
The actor, who is also a preacher, shared how maintaining his faith has sometimes put him at odds with certain roles, especially those that involve physical touch or romantic interaction.
“When I’m given a role where a woman is supposed to touch me, I mostly don’t agree,” Prah continued.
“Some of the ladies are very beautiful and seductive, and it’s hard to resist. Thankfully, the women who play these roles with me are understanding and avoid being too explicit, unlike they would be with a regular actor.”
