Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, has given an emotional account in court, alleging that her domestic workers systematically stole large sums of money and valuable possessions from her home over a prolonged period.
Taking the witness stand for the first time in her ongoing criminal trial, Dapaah told the Accra High Court that the accused individuals stole a total of $410,000, €300,000, and GHS350,000 (approximately $30,000) from a storage room in her residence.
Beyond the missing cash, she revealed that her jewelry, worth $53,000, was also taken.
The former minister expressed distress over the loss, explaining that these possessions had been accumulated over three decades and held deep personal significance.
Dapaah, who has been at the center of the high-profile case since 2023, accused her two former female housekeepers of orchestrating the theft.
She further alleged that, in addition to the money and jewelry, the stolen items included her husband’s clothing.
Her testimony marks a pivotal moment in the case, which has attracted national attention due to the staggering amounts involved. The trial continues as prosecutors seek to establish the full extent of the alleged theft and hold those responsible to account.
