Ghanaian music producer and CEO of Xtra Large Music, Joshua Raphaelson, known professionally as JMJ has revealed that he incurred debts while managing Kaakie.
Despite working on several projects with her, JMJ admitted in an interview with Joy FM that he did not generate any profits.
He mentioned during the interview with Kwame Dadzie that even after Kaakie decided to leave the music industry for nursing, JMJ is still dealing with the debts he accumulated during their collaboration.
JMJ attributed the lack of financial success to their limited understanding of digital music marketing strategies at the time of releasing the songs.
“As we speak, I am still servicing debts. Half of our songs are being monetized by other people,” he indicated.
JMJ, however, admitted that they had some revenue from the shows they performed.
“Where we were seeing inflows were direct shows. That is why back then we paid attention to shows more than all of these things,” he said.
Aside from his failure to make money from Kaakie, he also admitted that he did not make money from music production when he first started.
“Some of the things we were doing, we didn’t even think we were going to make money from them. Let me put it this way, I didn’t make money from my music productions.
“There were days and times that I had to pay for the transportation of these artistes so that they could come to the studio to record music,” he said, prompting a new bout of conversation around entertainment news in Ghana.
