Nigerian music sensation Tiwa Savage has never shied away from speaking her truth.
In a recent appearance on The Receipts Podcast, the singer opened up about the relentless age-shaming she faces as a Nigerian celebrity.
Her words, laced with confidence and defiance, offered a glimpse into the double standards women endure, especially those in the limelight.

“They age-shame me every single day,” Tiwa shared. “They say, ‘A woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini?’ I can because I have a body.”
Her statement was a powerful clapback at the societal norms that attempt to box women into what is deemed “appropriate” as they age.
For Tiwa, however, owning her body and her choices isn’t just about personal freedom—it’s about challenging a culture that polices women’s appearances.
She highlighted the contrast between how older women are perceived in different parts of the world, using Beyoncé as an example.
“Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis, but Americans don’t age-shame her. They would be like, for her age, black don’t crack. It’s more celebrated when you look good in your older age.”
Tiwa’s observations reflect a cultural divide, often seeing older women in African societies judged harshly for embracing their beauty and confidence.
The singer also touched on the legacy she hopes to leave for her son, demonstrating her commitment to redefining societal expectations.
