Tanzanian music icon Joseph Professor Jay Haule has shared a deeply personal account of the sacrifices made by his family while he was battling for his life.
During his prolonged hospitalization, he learned that most of his properties had been sold to cover his medical expenses, an action he says he has no regrets about.
“I’m starting from scratch,” Professor Jay said, speaking candidly about the toll his illness took on his finances.
“Since I got sick, my siblings sold most of my properties to save my life. I don’t regret it, because the most important thing is that I’m alive today. When the chances seemed so small, it’s a blessing to be here.”

The former MP for Mikumi Constituency acknowledged that while he was unaware of the property sales at the time, he holds no grudges.
“I didn’t know they were selling my properties. I was unconscious, and those decisions were made by the family, as I spent most of my time in a vegetative state,” he added.
Professor Jay’s medical journey began in January 2022 when he fell critically ill.
His wife rushed him to the Lugalo Military Hospital before he was transferred to Muhimbili National Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 462 days.
His condition was dire—suffering from kidney failure, high blood pressure, and other complications.
Reflecting on his darkest days, the musician confessed, “I had lost all hope of surviving. At that point, I was sure I was going to die. It was just a matter of when, not if.”
In a moment of desperation, he pulled out his dialysis tubes in an attempt to end his suffering, shocking the medical staff.
