Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed deep frustration over what he describes as repeated mistreatment by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly regarding the unauthorized use of his music for political purposes.
Speaking in an interview on OKAY FM, the renowned artist revealed that the party’s actions have left him feeling disrespected and misrepresented for years.
“I don’t like to talk about certain things. The NPP has taken me for a ride for a very long time,” he said, clearly upset.
“They did that again; without my consent, they took the music, they didn’t even contact me, and they went to the studio themselves and cut it to suit their purpose without my consent.”

Kwabena Kwabena lamented how the party failed to inform him after modifying his music for their campaigns, a move he says has created significant public misconceptions about his political allegiance.
He noted that the unauthorized use of his songs has led many to believe he is aligned with the NPP, a narrative he finds troubling.
“When they were done, they didn’t tell me anything, and so people still think I’m NPP because of what they do,” he stated.
The highlife icon’s remarks bring to the forefront the issue of intellectual property rights in Ghana, particularly in the political sphere, where music often plays a pivotal role in energizing campaigns.
While his music has undeniably added vibrancy to political rallies, the lack of acknowledgement and consent has left Kwabena Kwabena feeling exploited.
