Lyrical Joe has expressed his disappointment with Amerado winning the Best Rapper of the Year award at the 2023 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
The fast-rising rapper said there’s no other rapper who works as hard as he does, evident in the extensive and profound lyrics he consistently produces, along with his accompanying music videos.
During an interview on TV3’s New Day, Lyrical Joe voiced his grievances, stating that he was unfairly overlooked despite his song meeting all the requirements to win in the ‘Best Rap Performance’ category.
He feels that his moment in the spotlight was stolen from him and that he was unjustly robbed of the award. Lyrical Joe admitted that Amerado’s victory came as a surprise to him, as he had fully expected to take home the prize.
“Personally, I feel cheated. My songs that get nominated for Best rap performance, it is boot for boot. If its is being judged by the board, you will pick every of them.
“I am the only person that almost have a ten-minute rap song in the category with a ten-minute music video with different deliveries, puns on puns, everything that they said that it’s been looked for so anytime any of my fifth August songs gets nominated and it doesn’t win, I feel cheated,” he said.
Lyrical Joe recently made headlines for showcasing his musical talent by releasing consecutive diss tracks that left Nigerian artiste Dremo stunned.
This incident occurred shortly after Sarkodie’s ‘Brag’ song, where he proudly highlighted his long-standing presence in the music industry.
In his song, Sarkodie indirectly called out certain Nigerian artists, emphasizing his expertise and skill. He made sure to mention his involvement in the industry since the emergence of popular artists like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, as well as newer talents like Asake and Black Sherif.
This led to a retaliatory response from Nigerian artists, spearheaded by Dremo, resulting in a direct clash between him and Lyrical Joe.
