Okyeame Kwame had a conversation with Blessing, the host of Rhythmzlive on GHOne recently where he discussed his musical persona and artistry.
The veteran rapper, a former member of the award-winning music duo Akyeame, emphasized that he does not create his music with the sole intention of winning awards. Okyeame Kwame explained that he prioritizes originality in his music, which ultimately shapes the final products.
Furthermore, he expressed that he does not view music as a competitive industry, as he focuses on staying true to his own lane and does not compare his work to that of his peers in the mainstream.
In his words; “And once it goes into the realms of competing, that becomes a product,” he said. “At my level as an artist, I no longer compete at all.”
“I just go inside my heart and create something that is original, something that is nouveau to me, something that I find exciting. Then I put it in the world. If you like it, listen; if you don’t, it’s not for you.”
“When you produce your music, you do not expect awards or anything like that out of that?” Blessing asked. “Not at all,” Okyeame Kwame replied. “It’s not just my music. In my life, I expect very little. I want to get to a point where I expect nothing at all. I’m not there yet. But now that I expect, I expect the best and I prepare for the worst.”
Overall, Okyeame Kwame’s conversation with Blessing shed light on his unique approach to music-making and his dedication to staying true to his artistic vision.
From what he said, he held that by prioritizing originality and authenticity in his work, he has carved out a distinct niche for himself in the music industry, setting himself apart from his peers and earning respect for his commitment to his craft.
