At the launch of her state-of-the-art school, the Yvonne Nelson International School, actress Yvonne Nelson discussed with Joy Prime the challenges she faced in constructing the impressive facility, including exorbitant interest rates on bank loans that she ultimately chose to reject.
Yvonne disclosed that establishing the school was a long-held dream, and despite encountering numerous obstacles, she persevered, even going so far as to sell her home and deplete her savings to finance the project.
She noted that the interest rates offered by banks for the loan she sought were excessive, prompting her to liquidate her assets to support the school’s development.
Speaking to the journalist from Joy Prime, the House of Gold producer said;
“Obviously, we just started primary school and this is just phase one. We are going to continue and go higher.
“It is really crazy because, at a point, I am getting personal now. When we started the project, I had to sell my house because I went to the banks for loan and the percentages were, look, it did not make sense.
“So, I had to fall back on a house and sold it. I had so many memories there but I said to myself, Yvonne, this is the only way, so I sold the house, started the building, the money got finished and I had to dig into my savings.”
She concluded by saying, “Regardless of all the challenges, my heart is in the school project, and I know we are going to go to lengths that will surprise us. I know that a lot of future leaders are going to come out of the school.”
