Ghanaian fashionista, Nana Akua Addo has clarified that despite the common belief that she splurges on her stunning red carpet looks, she doesn’t necessarily spend a fortune to achieve them.

The discussion on this topic gained momentum following her recent appearances at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where she once again captivated audiences.

In her words, when it comes to her creative process, it typically takes around a year for her to meticulously plan her outfits. She emphasized the importance of her creative team, who provide guidance and suggestions on styling.

According to her, the team presents various looks, leading to discussions, brainstorming sessions, and ultimately the selection of one outfit. After that, she focuses on sourcing the necessary materials to bring the chosen look to life.

In an interview with the BBC Pidgin, Nana Akua Addo emphasized that she doesn’t spend excessively on her stunning outfits. She revealed that her dress for the AMVCA cost $6,000, which she considers to be within her budget.

“It takes me like one year to plan what I do. I wouldn’t sit here and take all the credit for what I do. I have a creative team that advises and directs me. They send me looks and we argue about it, brainstorm and after that one look is selected then I will think about how to resource the material.

“However, when I am on any Nigerian platform, I come as if I am at the Met Gala. However, when I do that I don’t try to break the bank. I select how many red carpets I want to be on for a year.

“For what I do I think it is production because there are so many things involved because of how artistic and different I really want to look.

“In doing this I don’t try to break the bank, I am not trying to rob any other person. I am a family person so everything is on budget, and everything is being spoken about. I don’t really worry myself that much.

I would rather give myself time and think how to put things together. I don’t really pressure myself that is why I take my time,” she said.
