During a church sermon at the prayer camp where he is currently undergoing treatment, Yaw Sarpong revealed that he divorced his wife Adwoa Penamang twenty years ago.

The veteran singer who inspired Ghanaians with countless number of his songs, implied that it was his wife who initiated the divorce by leaving him and moving to Kumasi without any valid explanation.

In his words, without any prior indication, she abruptly cut off all contact with him.

Based on her actions, Yaw Sarpong took the step of visiting Penamang’s father to inform him about the situation and officially declare the end of their marriage.

Nevertheless, he mentioned that the error he made was failing to commence the customary rituals required to nullify the marriage, ensuring both parties were fully aware that the marriage had been annulled.

“It’s been 20 years since I divorced Penamang,” during a Sunday church service at New Jerusalem Chapel.

“I was asked to bring a ring and soft drinks to perform the marital rites. However, she began to act out. Instead of staying in Accra to look after the children, she moved to Kumasi.

“I reported the issue to her father. By that time, I had recovered from my illness,” he stated.

He dismissed a heartfelt argument put forth by Adwoa Penamang, claiming that his longtime backing vocalist, Tiwaa, is now the side chic who has taken over his marriage.

“Many of the things she [Penamang] mentioned, I don’t even recall. I let Tiwaa take care of me because she has been a pillar of support in my career, particularly during challenging times.

“Those who allege Tiwaa has taken me away from my wife are misinformed. I have not married Tiwaa,” he clarified.
