Shatta Bandle has apologised to Nigerians following his recent trip to the country for the funeral of the late comedian John Okafor, also known as Mr Ibu.
The social media personality, known for his self-proclaimed title of Young Rich Negga, made headlines by showering money at the funeral service.
However, his actions violated the ban imposed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on public cash spraying, which dominated entertainment news a few days ago.
The EFCC has stated that the act of spraying naira notes at social gatherings diminishes the value of the currency. Through a recent announcement on its official social media platform, the anti-corruption agency called on Nigerians to uphold the dignity of the currency.
“Respect the Naira! Ridiculing our currency weakens our collective pride,” the EFCC wrote under its Eagle Series.
“The dignity of naira go decline as you dey spray babe wey fine because she sabi dance and whine, guys go step on naira wey dey shine, e go come ugly like juju for shrine,” the anti-graft agency added.
To this end, Shatta Bandle released a video apologizing for his ignorance of the law and his public display of money during his visit.
He emphasized that he did not intend to break any laws while in Lagos, stating that Nigeria holds a special place in his heart as his second home.
“I want to apologize to the people of Nigeria and the President. I also want to apologize to the EFCC especially.
“I did not come to Lagos to break the laws of the land. I love all my Nigerians, I did not come there to break any rules because Nigeria is my second home. I am sorry for what I’ve done please forgive me,” he said.
