Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has captured the entire internet’s attention when she disclosed an unconventional ritual she undertook before a kissing scene in her inaugural film, Water and Garri.
In an interview with Black Entertainment Television (BET), Savage revealed that she diligently brushed her teeth six times to prepare for the intimate moment.
By doing so, she aimed to ensure that she portrayed her character flawlessly, dispelling any potential misinterpretation that her statement could have caused.
She said, “The first day on set, I had my kissing scene. I am glad it was my first day because I just went right into it. I remember in my dressing room, I brushed my teeth like five, six times because I was like I needed to represent. But, he was very lovely. All of the cast was. They were really, really nice.”
Savage, who played the lead character (Aisha) in the movie, shared kisses with Andrew Bunting, her co-star (who plays Kay in the movie).
Tiwa Savage’s debut film was made available on Prime Video and is exclusively accessible in over 240 countries.
What sets this new venture from the Nigerian sensation apart is the fact that the entire production was filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Jimi Adesanya, the executive director, commended the cast of the film for their unwavering support for one another and their ability to bring the story to life.
He also acknowledged Tiwa Savage for her financial contributions and emphasized the importance of choosing Cape Coast, Ghana as the filming location.
While addressing the location, Adesanya said, “That was a beautiful way for us to make our mark: the Cape Coast, which also signifies the door of no return—some of our black brothers and sisters were taken away from us to another part of the world many decades ago.”
