Ghana’s sensational Reggae/Dancehall queen, Aklerh, sat down for an engaging interview with Giovani Caleb on 3FM, monitored by Ghanastreetjournal, sharing her story, her craft, and her dreams.
The artist spoke about her journey in music, her creative process, and her ambitions for the future.
When asked about her style, Aklerh confidently described her music as a blend of reggae and dancehall, noting that her strength lies in these genres.
“I’ve been doing music for about three years now, but my passion for it has always been there,” she said. Her musical journey began serendipitously when she attended a conference and met Kjo of Kumo Records, who sparked her entry into music.
“He asked why I seemed upset, and I told him I’d love to make music for the world to hear. That’s when he offered to record me,” she recalled, smiling.
Aklerh’s debut song, Only You, under Revolution Records, marked the beginning of her mainstream career.
Since then, she has released hits like Money and an entire EP titled Dancehall Queen. Reflecting on the project, which featured six tracks, she mentioned the warm support she’s received from the dancehall community, even as she experiments with afrobeats.
“Dancehall is my thing,” she emphasized, addressing concerns about possibly straying from her roots.
Aklerh’s passion for music, coupled with her unique blend of Ga, Twi, and Pidgin in her lyrics, sets her apart.
“I bring heritage into my music,” she explained, highlighting the personal touch she brings to her sound and the cultural significance embedded in her songs.
