I Am Very Sorry—Prophet Oduro Apologises To UTV

Prophet Kofi Oduro has expressed his sincere apologies to United Television (UTV), Fadda Dickson, and Osei Kwame Despite during his appearance on United Showbiz, hosted by MzGee.

He acknowledged that United Showbiz provided the perfect platform for him to extend his unreserved apology to the management of the TV station, following the recent conflict that arose between them.

The conflict stemmed from the removal of Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro’s religious show, which is aired on Sundays, in a rather abrupt manner. This decision greatly angered him and prompted him to embark on a warpath with the station.

In addition to this, in September, a letter allegedly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) surfaced, instructing the showrunners of United Showbiz to balance their political discussions, as they were perceived to be overly critical of the current government. This directive sparked a backlash from many individuals who accused the government of suppressing media freedom in the country.

Prophet Oduro, in response to these two incidents, expressed his utter shock upon hearing the news. He voiced his disappointment at the fact that certain individuals possess the power to dictate the content that media houses can showcase on their platforms.

“I was shocked that a letter was written from the current government to UTV. You are dictating to a private TV station who you like and who you don’t like. So somebody can sit at home and be making instructions, “I don’t like this guy. I don’t like this guy,” he fumed.

Prophet Oduro wondered if his weekly show was similarly removed from the air.

“No wonder “Daa Nkwa Nsem” has been removed from Thursday afternoons and replaced with movies,” he said.

Additionally, Prophet Oduro shared an encounter where officials from a TV station said they were ready to offer him airtime for his broadcasts with the condition that he would not attack President Akufo-Addo or the government.

“I remember when a young man saw me; my team was trying to get a new contract with W3TV. The guy came from Movement TV and we were talking and he told me, We would love you to come on our network, but please never speak against President Akufo Addo and the Government of Ghana,” he said.

The man of God acknowledged that while his statements were often distorted on social media, he recognized that he also made mistakes in his approach to the matter.
